Content
Inquiries into Australia's digital landscape have highlighted the importance of strong data protections to counter abuses of power, promote competition, and improve social welfare. Many of these inquiries also identify an increasing surveillance of people's lives by 'big tech'. This unit provides an introduction to the laws affecting data and privacy, and addresses the problems raised by modern practices. Topics covered in the unit include: introduction to data law; consumer data rights; data sharing and release laws; data regulation; introduction to privacy law; privacy law principles; data law and privacy -future trends.
