Typical study commitment:

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

Content

This unit assists students to develop public health and health promotion professional practice theory, knowledge and skills necessary for effective health promotion action in the field. This unit aims to provide an authentic experience engaging with a diverse range of health practitioners. It also gives students an opportunity to explore public health and health promotion within a particular setting.

The unit consists of three modules:

Module 1 will explore the health needs of diverse groups.
Module 2 will provide perspectives of industry experience via direct engagement with health practitioners from a range of organisations.
Module 3 will provide direct industry experience with students involved in health promotion within a particular setting.

Across the three modules students will undertake approximately 80 hours of work integrated learning. Students enrolled in this unit are ambassadors for their courses as well as for Deakin University. The highest standards of professional and personal conduct are always expected. The professional practice skills developed in this unit relate directly to public health and health promotion core competencies.
