Content
A strong understanding of computer networks is fundamental for cyber security. This unit will give students the deep understanding they need of how network protocols across the stack operate, while providing them with the programming and technical skills needed to analyse them. This will provide the focused technical foundation they need to be successful in the course.
ULO | These are the Learning Outcomes (ULO) for this unit. At the completion of this unit, successful students can: | Deakin Graduate Learning Outcomes |
---|---|---|
ULO1 | Explain the layers of abstraction involved in the computer network protocol stack, and how these enable data to flow between machines within a network. | GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities |
ULO2 | Design and develop programs that interact with networks at different levels with the network protocol stack to implement and analyse common protocols. | GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities |
ULO3 | Use industry-relevant networking tools to analyse different network configurations, real network data, networking protocols, and their operations, and provide networking solutions to given problems. | GLO3: Digital literacy |
ULO4 | Reflect and critique on how networks and protocols are constructed and apply those concepts in analysing real network issues related to security and scalability. | GLO4: Critical thinking |
Assessment
Assessment Description | Student output | Grading and weighting (% total mark for unit) | Indicative due week |
---|---|---|---|
Learning portfolio | Portfolio demonstrating student learning and reflections | 100% | Weekly submissions. Final submission Week 12 |
The assessment due weeks provided may change. The Unit Chair will clarify the exact assessment requirements, including the due date, at the start of the teaching period.
Hurdle requirement
To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must meet certain milestones as part of the portfolio.
