Content
The unit takes a high-level view of IS development where the focus is on the strategic alignment of IS and business functions in an organisation, which involves planning and discussion of business needs as well as negotiation and specification of solutions required by the client organisation, and agreed upon by management. Such solutions often involve development of information systems, and may also include business process improvement, organizational change, and strategy and policy development. In this unit, students will examine the principles and practices of stakeholder analysis, identify business needs, problems and opportunities, analyse, negotiate and specify requirements for any solution that may involve technology-inspired change. Students will explore critical issues in acquiring, modelling, validating and communicating requirements for large business systems. In the seminars and online exercises, students will develop practical hands-on skills in effectively acquiring information from client groups by brainstorming, interviewing, conducting seminars and meetings.
