Content
Following a lead, investigating and finding new information is a vital skill for anyone working in the land and sea Country sector. Researching for Country gives you the opportunity to conduct research on a topic related to either family, Community or workplace needs. By the end of the unit, you will have acquired advanced research strategies, critical writing techniques and developed a research story that can stand alone or for further development. The Unit begins by examining the importance and contribution that Indigenous-led research can have on interpreting cultural landscapes, re-framing history and presenting writing as Story. It also includes a discussion on research protocols required in the production of knowledge and its communication. When researching a topic of interest you may use oral histories, photographs, newspaper clippings, reports, intangible heritage and published materials that will contribute to enriching your understanding of the topic. Ultimately, this unit will provide the space for you to focus on advancing your writing and communication skills in a way that is relevant to your professional as well as personal needs.
