Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - online unit enrolment:

3 x 2-hour online practical experience (workshops) per trimester (livestreamed, recordings provided) 

In-person attendance requirements:

100 internship hours (or equivalent) per trimester, with an approved host organisation 

Typical study commitment:

Students will on average spend 150-hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Note:

All students must complete the following three-step internship application process:

  • prepare: Complete the online ArtsEd Pre-Internship Program
  • secure: Identify, research and contact potential host organisations. Negotiate your tasks, goals, hours, and supervision arrangements
  • register: *Apply online to have your internship approved. Students cannot commence their internship or enrol in this unit until they have applied online and received approval from the Faculty of Arts and Education Work Integrated Learning (WIL) team

*Please note that internship applications need to be registered at least two weeks before commencing an internship. Students will have the best success if they commence their research, planning and preparation early.

Content

Working with an approved organisation, you will have the opportunity to apply the principles and practices from your chosen field of study in a professional setting through the completion of an internship. Internships provide the opportunity to learn directly from experienced professionals, enhance your discipline-specific and transferable skills, build your network of contacts, contribute to professional projects and activities that have real-world impact, and sample potential career paths. Plus, an internship makes a good impression on a resume - it speaks volumes about your commitment to gaining industry experience and enhancing your employability, even before you have graduated from your course. Internships are normally undertaken in the second or third year (or equivalent) of study.
