Content
The unit will explore the rich period of philosophy that emerged from France in the 20th century. Students will come to grips with the work of philosophers such as Bergson, Canguilhem, Foucault, Deleuze, Derrida and Cixous. In doing so, students will come to understand the diverse philosophical views produced in 20th century France as unified by a concern to articulate a relationship between ‘life’ and ‘thought’. Finally, students will be asked to reflect on the ways in which the relation between life and thought remains a concern for philosophy, and to themselves engage with this problematic.
