Content
This unit offers practical experience in translating from Indonesian into English, and develops key skills for effective translation, including critical analysis of automated translation tools, notably Google Translate. Authentic Indonesian texts from contemporary media sources will be used as texts for translating into English. Practical experience is complemented by exploring key ideas in translation theory that inform contemporary practice. These include the concept of equivalence, both linguistic and functional. Students will also be made aware of NAATI (the National Accreditation Authority of Translators and Interpreters) and have the opportunity to consider employment opportunities as a translator.
