Content
In Art in the Postdigital Age students will examine key contexts for the production and reception of contemporary art in augmented and disruptive ways. Extending on the second year history and theory unit, creative practices in the digital field will be examined, building increased knowledge of what drives the production of art in relation to new technologies and how we come to understand, interpret, build and contest them. Drawing on a range of subject areas including an analysis of embodiment and technology, data subjectivity and aesthetics, the event and spectacle culture among others, the unit will aim to expand critical knowledge and practice while at the same time develop advanced skills in writing and debate. Focusing on the key skills of practice-led enquiry and interpretation, the unit will also provide a professional practice and critical context for connecting the digital identity to art world applications. Students will undertake a number of practical exercises and writing tasks connected to persuasive writing as well as an oral presentation on a chosen subject area.
