Scheduled learning activities - campus:

1 X 3 hour Practical per week (Weeks 1 - 11).

The public performance outcome will be a single in-class matinee performance in week 11, and a single evening performance in week 11. A Technical rehearsal will occur in scheduled class time in week 10.

Content

Topics to be addressed in this unit include: the nature of dramatic language; play- structure and theatrical style; and the ways in which these elements work together to create dramatic meaning. Emphasis will be given to further development of individual performing skills and to enhancing students' understanding of dramaturgical processes and strategies.

The unit production will be directed by a director with professional experience as a theatre director. Productions will not be longer than 45mins and will emphasise inventive production solutions within limited resource constraints and production values (minimal set, props, lighting and costumes) to promote problem-solving skills. .

Assessment 1 (Individual) - Written research task (1200 words or equivalent) - 30%

Assessment 2 (Individual) - Performance Documentation (800 words or equivalent) - 20%

Assessment 3 (Individual) - Rehearsal Process and Performance (2000 words or equivalent) - 50%
