WELCOME

Welcome to the unit EEE726 Digital learning, Design and Assessment.
This unit guide outlines the aims of the unit, covers the broad topics around digital learning to be studied and describes the assessment requirements. The unit guide first is a useful resource for tracking the progress of the unit, reminding yourself of the unit learning outcomes, and it is also useful when preparing to study or embark on an assignment.
I hope you will enjoy the challenges of digital learning design and assessment as much as I do, and that your learning here is rewarding and stimulating.
Please note that your first and principal access to this unit will be through FutureLearn. Each assessment item has its own introduction step and its own submission step. These steps are well sign-posted, including a link to the CloudDeakin site where you will submit your assessments.

ABOUT THIS UNIT

This unit examines principles and theories of digital learning, including the role of digital technologies in contemporary educational contexts. A broad range of digital learning strategies are presented through case studies to analyse how these approaches are aligned with learning outcomes, assessment and learning activities. Specific attention is given to the use of digital learning strategies that promote active, equitable and personally engaging learning experiences for learners from diverse backgrounds. Participants are asked to design and reflect on a digital learning intervention for their own professional context which demonstrates their understanding of relevant educational theories. Participants reflect on their own practice and also provide peer feedback to other participants enrolled in the unit, in order to develop critical thinking and evaluative judgement skills.

Unit development in response to student feedback

Every trimester, we ask students to tell us, through eVALUate, what helped and hindered their learning in each unit. You are strongly encouraged to provide constructive feedback for this unit when eVALUate opens (you will be emailed a link).

In order to continuously improve and develop the course, all students will be asked to give feedback during and at the end of trimester (e.g. eVALUate). Please contribute your feedback when given the opportunity, as it will be invaluable in improving the experience of current and future students.

If you have any concerns about the unit during the trimester please contact the unit teaching team - preferably early in the trimester - so we can discuss your concerns, and make adjustments, if appropriate.

Assessment 1 (Individual) - Digital Learning intervention plan (2500 words or equivalent) - 50%
Assessment 2 (Individual, with Group Component) - Professional practice action plan (2500 words or equivalent) - 50%

Summative assessment

(tasks that will be graded or marked)
NOTE: It is your responsibility to keep a backup copy of every assignment where it is possible (eg written/digital reports, essays, videos, images). In the unusual event that one of your assignments is misplaced, you will need to submit the backup copy. Any work you submit may be checked by electronic or other means for the purposes of detecting collusion and/or plagiarism.

When you are required to submit an assignment through CloudDeakin (accessed in DeakinSync), you should receive an email to your Deakin email address confirming that it has been submitted. You should check that you can see your assignment in the Submissions view of the Assignment folder after upload, and check for, and keep, the email receipt for the submission.

- Summative assessment task 1

(Individual) - Digital Learning intervention plan
Brief description of assessment task
This first assessment task requires participants to prepare a plan of a digital learning intervention that they will implement in their future practice. To complete this assessment task, participants will:
  • describe the key concepts, or professional skill or community need and how the digital learning intervention plan relates to the broader discipline area/degree program(s)/professional/community context, outcomes, and any relevant standards and frameworks (e.g. professional, industry, quality standards)
  • apply constructive alignment to develop a plan of intended learning outcomes (ILOs)
  • develop assessment task(s) that are digitally-enabled and constructively aligned with the ILOs
  • identify appropriate learning activities that activate learning in digital environments and demonstrate contemporary, inclusive and digital teaching practices.
