Content
This unit charts the development of texts over time to examine how and why some reach canonical status and are considered 'classics', while others are labelled 'trash' or 'cult'. Texts such as Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, Lolita and Breakfast at Tiffany's will be analysed in relationship to the Western canon and challenges to its formation. These books will be studied alongside: anime from Studio Ghibli; graphic novels; TV series; music and popular versions of classic texts. Concepts of high, low and pop culture will also be studied.
