Fire ring main upgrades - Building OA (Waurn Ponds Estate) - Waurn Ponds
Starts 30/09/2024, finishes 31/10/2024A new fire ring main surrounding Building OA, Waurn Ponds Campus will be installed between Monday 30 September and late-October. 
A fire ring main is a loop or network of pipes designed to ensure there is adequate supply of water to hydrants, therefore the maintenance of these pipes is crucial to uphold effective fire safety measures. 
During this time, you can expect:
- Groundworks to install new fire ring mains and remove existing pipes where required. This will involve excavation of the landscape and roads surrounding the building.
- Dust from the work areas as groundworks take place.
- Loud construction noise derived from heavy machinery.
- Vehicle and pedestrian detours in various areas as the works progress, with wayfinding signage in place where required. 
- Temporary fencing to enclose the work areas.

Building refurbishment - Building DA - Waurn Ponds
Starts 23/09/2024, finishes 31/01/2025Works to uplift several spaces in Building DA, Waurn Ponds Campus will be commencing on Monday 23 September, with an expected completion date in early-2025.  
The physical works of this project will be undertaken in a phased approach to provide minimal impact to users of the fitness centre and stadium. To align with this strategy, the fitness centre has been temporarily relocated to DA2.004 and will be returned to its original location mid-November 2024.
This project is taking place to uplift several spaces in the building that will include:
- Accessibility upgrades for amenities 
- Lighting and ceiling upgrades
- Carpet and vinyl flooring replacements, including the stadium.
Upcoming impact dates to note include:
- No access to the amenities located on Level 1 (DA1.005 and DA1.006) between Monday 23 September and Monday 11 November 2024.

Integrated Water Management Phase 2 - External Locations - Waurn Ponds
Starts 20/08/2024, finishes 31/03/2025The Integrated Water Management (IWM) Phase 2 project will deliver essential stormwater interventions and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) initiatives that will reduce flooding on the Waurn Ponds Campus.
IWM Phase 2 involves the construction of several interventions, with all works taking place externally between September 2024 and March 2025. 
- Intervention 4 - S Pond Upgrade, adjacent to Building DD
- Intervention 5 - Nicol Drive North Bund Drainage
- Intervention 6 - Extension, west of Building NI
- Intervention 8 - Lower N Precinct Drainage
- Intervention 9 - Union Green Trench Drains
- Intervention B - New Bioretention Basin, between Buildings NI/NA/NN
- Intervention F - Perimeter Union Green Trench Drains 
- Intervention J - Drainage Behind Building LA
- Intervention K - Drainage Behind Building LH
Construction impacts
Measures will be in place to mitigate and/or reduce the impacts associated with these works, however, the following may be noticed within proximity of intervention locations. 
- Full and partial road closures adjacent to some interventions, specific dates will be communicated in advance.
- Pedestrian detours around interventions.
- Construction noise to neighbouring buildings, including safety beeping from machinery and general construction noise such as banging and drilling.
- Increase in dust and dirt surrounding the interventions.

DUELI space uplift - Building LA - Burwood
Starts 19/08/2024, finishes 22/11/2024A project to uplift several spaces in the Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) will be commencing on Monday 26 August, with an expected completion in late-November. 
These works are taking place to ensure the longevity of the building and to improve existing layouts, fixtures, and furniture. 
During this time, you can expect:
- Demolition works to take place outside of business hours 
- Limited access in some areas across Levels 2 and 5, specifically:
-LA2.206, LA2.207, LA2.300 Reception
-LA5.109 to 111 and LA5.116 - Level 2 corridors will be shared by staff, students, and contractors
- Lift LA2.003 will be allocated to facilitate transport of building equipment and resources

Health Precinct - Warrnambool
Starts 07/08/2024, finishes 31/03/2025We are developing specialised simulation spaces and clinical teaching rooms at the Warrnambool Campus as a part of an Integrated Health Precinct to further excel our on-campus Health facilities.
Expected construction timeline: August 2024 - March 2025 
Status of Project: Delivery
Location: Warrnambool Campus, Building J North, Level 1 and Building F, Level 1.
 
Project inclusions
- Occupational Therapy and Medical simulation spaces including specialised beds 
- Medical clinical teaching lab  
- Upgraded nursing simulation teaching and viewing spaces 
- Multipurpose training and practice space for students to access outside of timetabled hours 
- Interview and meeting rooms
- Updated storage areas and bathroom facilities 
Work components
- Site establishment to the rear of Building J including set up of site amenities
- Installation of site safety and hoarding to enable safe egress for students and staff 
- Major and partial demolitions of existing fitouts in Building J and F
- Construction of new School of Medicine simulation spaces, classroom, storeroom and technical prep area 
- Construction of new Occupation Therapy simulation spaces, classroom, storage room and DDA toilet 
- Construct secondary support spaces
- Substantial AV works to classroom and simulation spaces 
- External / pavement and ground works for sewer installation and modifications  
- Works to external plant area (on ground) between Building F and Building J 
- New auto doors to Building J and works to flooring in foyer  
Construction impacts
- Building J works to commence from 7 August with noise impact to surrounding area including on Level 3 and high levels of noise expected between 14 August and 6 September 
- Building F works to commence from October with noise impact to surrounding area including on Level 1 and 3 and high levels of noise expected between 14-31 October
- All existing fire escape stairs and lift access will be maintained throughout construction for both Building J and F

Temporary relocation - Fitness centre, Building DA - Waurn Ponds
Starts 06/08/2024, finishes 30/10/2024The fitness centre is being temporarily relocated to Building DA, Level 2 (DA2.004) between Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 August to prepare for the upcoming refurbishment works commencing mid-September. 
We expect the fitness centre to return to its original location late-October. 
During this time, you can expect:
- Limited gym equipment 
- The sign-in desk will remain in its current location until the physical works commence mid-September
- Operational hours and services will remain the same
- Posters and wayfinding floor stickers in place to direct users to the temporary space

Changes to 767 bus route, detour via Station Street - Burwood
Starts 24/07/2024, finishes 31/12/2024As a part of the Suburban Rail Loop project, there are changes to the 767 bus route, taking place from 24 July until late 2024. 
From 7am - 9.30am the 767 bus route will detour via Station Street and reconnect at Riversdale Road and Elgar Road and will no longer travel along Burwood Highway. 
The route will travel to: 
- Burwood Highway and Station Street bus stop 
- Byron Street and Elgar Road bus stop

Room refurbishments - Level 2, Building KA (west) - Waurn Ponds
Starts 30/07/2024, finishes 04/10/2024Works to uplift the west side of Building KA, Level 2 will be taking place between Tuesday 30 July and mid-October 2024. These works are being undertaken to provide a refreshed and enhanced laboratory space to facilitate current research activities and support future scientific needs.
Project inclusions:
- Internal refurbishment of KA2.202 lab room
- External refurbishment of the plant area - decommissioning and removal of existing redundant plant equipment, drainage and structural enhancements
- Installation of new ducted air conditioning split units in the ceiling void to provide conditioned air.
High-impact works:
- Concrete works - Friday 4 October between 6.30am and 3pm.
Practical completion is expected in mid-October 2024.

Laboratory upgrades - Level 2, Building KA - Waurn Ponds
Starts 27/05/2024, finishes 31/01/2025Anatomy laboratory upgrades are scheduled to take place across various rooms on Level 2, Building KA commencing Monday 27 May. 
The project is taking place to implement automatic monitoring and ventilation systems to manage airborne gas levels to ensure the ongoing delivery of critical coursework, and the health and safety of staff and students utilising these spaces. 
This project will completed in stages to avoid disruption of classes during teaching periods.

- KA 2.222 and KA2.225 2 - 9 September

Future Economy Precinct infrastructure enabling - Waurn Ponds
Starts 08/04/2024, finishes 31/12/2024Future Economy Precinct enabling infrastructure works are scheduled to take place between mid-April and late-2024 behind Building NP and NR, with site establishment commencing from Monday 8 April. These works are to install facilities infrastructure such as electricity, sewer lines and fire tanks.  
Construction impacts include:
- Hydraulics service installation 16 May - 18 June
- Groundworks and kerb construction 27 May - 2 July
- Construct and install new sewer maintenance hole 4 -10 June
- Concrete slab and steel works 18 - 24 June
Throughout this project the car parks surrounding the buildings and the one-way road behind Building NP will remain accessible.

Geelong Convention and Events Centre (GCEC) - Construction update - Waterfront
Starts 22/08/2023, finishes 31/12/2026The Nyaal Banyul GCEC precinct will include the construction of the purpose-built convention and exhibition space, incorporating a 1000 seat venue, two large exhibition spaces, meeting rooms, conference facilities and flexible event spaces. 
As this precinct is in such close proximity to the Waterfront Campus, we will be providing monthly updates on construction works.
September 2024
Temporary footpath closure
- The pedestrian footpath adjacent to the site on Western Beach Road will be closed between Cavendish St and Gheringhap St to facilitate works between Monday 9 and Saturday 14 September. 
- Local traffic controllers will be in place during this time.
Tower Crane 2 works
- Works will involve the installation of additional towers to Tower Crane 2 on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September, between 7am and 7pm. 
- These works will be undertaken from the designated loading bay, with no disturbance to Smythe St.
- The Deakin car parks will not be affected.
Water mains installation 
- Night works on the precinct's water mains upgrade are complete, with ongoing activity planned during standard operating hours.
- Any disruption to water supply will be notified by Barwon Water directly. 
Sewer installation
- Works on the sewer installation will commence in August, starting on Western Beach Road, followed by Gheringhap Street and then Smythe Street.
- Works will include excavation and reinstatement of the road surface to install underground sewer pipes, along with increased truck movements to remove associated debris.
- There will be a rolling schedule of disruption to road and pedestrian thoroughfare as follows:
- Western Beach Road, westbound footpath and lane closure between Gheringhap Street and Cunningham Street until 13 September.
- Cunningham Street closure on the northern half until 13 September. 
- Gheringhap Street closure between Western Beach Road and Smythe Street until 13 September, including detours and weekend works.
- Smythe Street lane closure between Gheringhap Street and Cavendish Street in late-August, including repurposing street parking for vehicle passage. Deakin carparks will remain open.
- Local traffic controllers will be place to manage pedestrian and vehicle movement in affected areas.
Operating hours
- Standard site operating hours are as follows: 
- Monday to Friday 7:00am-7:00pm (allowable to 8:00pm)
- Saturday 8:00am-3:00pm (allowable to 8:00pm)
- Sunday (as required via permit application and approval)
Please note construction may occasionally extend beyond operating hours due to unforeseen circumstances, with approval from CoGG and authorities.
