Content

This unit focuses on three important topics in economics, pertaining to how economies flourish over time, how income and assets are distributed across population and probable misallocation of resources which may lead to conflict and civil war. The unit aims to provide students with a sound foundation on drivers of economic prosperity and the tensions and chasms they can create in societies experiencing uneven economic progress. Students will learn the fundamental drivers of economic growth like savings, investment, technological improvement and human capital linked knowledge production. They will also delve into issues facilitating distribution of income and wealth as economies grow over time. Finally, students will develop an understanding of misallocation of resources which could impede economic prosperity and lead to greater income inequality. These factors along with the prospects of climate change and associated detrimental impact on resources could lead to conflict and civil war experienced by a number of developing countries.
