Content

By examining Indigenous systems of knowledge and their development across millennia students will gain insight and clarification of the practical, conceptual and spiritual role of Country within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Comparisons of Western, Eastern, and Indigenous practices and philosophies in relation to Country, and how Australian Indigenous knowledge systems have shaped practices applicable for current environmental management strategies will be identified and analysed.

Within this unit students will explore dimensions of place, space and time to examine the reciprocal relationship between human beings and the environment. How do people 'see' and 'know' nature? How do we experience and care for it? We examine these questions through Indigenous perspectives starting through creation, to the varying ongoing responsibilities and commitment of caring for Country, and the world in which we live.
