Content
This unit will focus on the requirement of design to act as an agent of change. Design has matured as an industry and designers are required to do more than develop and materialise ideas using contemporary technologies. Design practitioners are now called on to conceptualise experiences and facilitate social, cultural, environmental and economic outcomes.
Students will explore design as an agent of change by researching design activism and design thinking to analyse systemic problems that empower and deliver creative outcomes to complex challenges. Students will be presented with a selection of social problems and will be required to consider ways of combining different design disciplines to address these issues using design as an agent for change; addressing big picture problems in the world and taking a step towards change.
